The world is only six short weeks away from the premiere of what will undoubtedly be the next Hollywood big budget franchise. The Hunger Games releases March 23rd and fans of the best selling books (like myself) are anxious to see if the cinema product lives up to the paper prose.
In anticipation of the upcoming film, Lionsgate has just released another trailer. This one is only about a minute long but boy does it entertain. The focus of the trailer is more at the emotional level, where we see Katniss' (Jennifer Lawrence) relationship to her sister Primrose (Willow Shields). The trailer also reveals the symbol of the mockingjay, which plays a vital role throughout the books. On a lighter note you also get to see Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) and Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci) in their ridiculous get ups.
What I also enjoyed about the trailer was how it introduces the real emotional relationships between Katniss, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), and Gale (Liam Hemsworth). The triangle of these three characters forms the crux of the trilogy even though Gale appears little in the first film. While there are some excellent effects shots, (the burning log, the escape from the floating platforms) spectacle doesn't overwhelm story. And is there any doubt that Jennifer Lawrence is going to rock this role? There's a reason she was nominated for an Academy Award.
