Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling may join director Shane Black's new film

Shane Black seems to be one of those guys that people in the industry have a lot of respect for, but isn't a household name like Spielberg.  Hard to believe, considering the guy did Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.  He also did a little low budget film last year called Iron Man 3.

In any event Shane's followup movie The Nice Guys sounds fantastic.  The film has been in development since 2011 and now there's word via "The Wrap" that Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe are up for the two main roles.

Here's a brief synopsis of the plot:

In smoggy 1970s Los Angeles, Jackson Healy (muscle-for-hire, recovering alcoholic) and Holland March (private eye, practicing alcoholic) are brought together by the suicide of a fading porn star. Problem is, the dead girl’s aunt is convinced she saw her niece alive and well, AFTER the highly publicized incident. March needs money, takes the case-and within days, it’s blossomed into a far-reaching murder conspiracy, bizarrely rooted in smog and the U.S. auto industry.

This film sounds like Serpico crossed with All the President's Men.  I am down.

Presumably Crowe would play the role of the muscle-for-hire and Gosling as the private eye but nothing is confirmed yet.  Two great actors on the same screen with an incredibly talented director at the helm.  I repeat:  I am down.

No word on a production start date yet but hopefully we'll hear something soon.
