Darkman and Maximus to join Aranofsky's Noah?

About a week ago I reported on director Darren Aranofsky's impending "Noah" re imagining. Although the filming was set to begin this July nothing was official.

This news might get the ball rolling in the right direction however.

According to "Deadline" Aranofsky is recruiting ass-kicking, beard toting thespians Liam Neeson* and Russell Crowe for the film. Reportedly Aranofsky wants Crowe to take the title role while Neeson will play an "unspecified" part. My guess is Neeson would be playing the villain and not giraffe #2.

Officially no deals are currently in place and no talks have begun. However, it is important to note that the film is written by John Logan who also penned the script for Gladiator. You may remember it? It was the film that won Russell Crowe the Academy Award for Best Actor. I think that improves Crowe's chances of signing on.

Studios are hoping for a summer 2013 release.

*In case you are wondering, that picture of Liam Neeson is from the 1983 film Krull where he played Kegan. This was only the second American film for the Irish actor, the first being 1981's Excalibur where he played Gawain.
