Relax guys. The Iron Man will returneth!
There had been some disturbing reports that Robert Downey Jr. was considering leaving the character of Iron Man completely behind. This of course caused wails from nerds across the globe that could be heard on Mars. Director Joss Whedon had even threatened not to be in the film if Downey wasn't a part of it.
Fortunately, for fans of the metal superhero their worries can be put to rest. Marvel Studios just released a press release announcing that Robert Downey Jr. has signed on to play Iron Man in The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3. This is great news because honestly I couldn't see anyone else playing the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man besides Robert Downey Jr.
The Avengers 2 starts filming in March 2014 with a release date of May 1st, 2015. The Avengers 3 should hit theaters sometime in 2018.
