Terminator 5 may start filming next year, Paramount could distribute

Although Megan and David Ellison's companies Annapurna Pictures and Skydance Productions purchased the rights to the Terminator franchise two years ago, there's been little movement on a fifth film until now.
"The Wrap" reports that Paramount Pictures is very close to getting distribution rights for the film which could begin shooting as early as next year.  Strangely enough Justin Lin (Fast Five, Fast and the Furious 6) who was once attached to the project just backed out of directing Fast and the Furious 7 so he may soon be back at the helm.
What concerns me however are the two scriptwriters on this project, Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis.  The former is known for the pearls Drive Angry and the Dracula 2000 series, while the latter wrote Alexander and Pathfinder.  Not exactly top notch.  But at least AH-NULD is attached to this one which is promising.
The real question is where are they going to take the next film?  Should they still follow in the timeline of the abysmal Terminator: Salvation?  Should this project even be made?  It seems to me that the writers might be better in ignoring the last film altogether and go off in an entirely new direction.
Arnold Schwarzenegger can next be seen in Escape Plan (formerly The Tomb) this October alongside Sly Stallone.
