Huge news! Joaquin Phoenix may play the main villain in "Batman vs. Superman"
*Disclaimer: Until I hear otherwise on a different title, all further articles on the upcoming Batman/Superman movie will be referred to as Batman Vs. Superman. Anything else is just too complicated.
For the love of God let this be true.
"Variety" magazine reports that Warner Bros. is commited to getting Joaquin Phoenix to play the lead villain in the upcoming Superman Vs. Batman movie. Notice I said villain NOT Lex Luthor. Lex Luthor has not even been confirmed as the villain yet, although I suspect he will be. Either way, Phoenix would be a fantastic villain....but man I'd love to see him as Lex Luthor. Phoenix has already proven he can play a villain with his role as Commodus in Gladiator, so I'm all for this.
People have different opinions on Phoenix. He's definitely one of the more eccentric actors in Hollywood but there's no denying his talent. Walk the Line is one of my favorite movies of the last ten years and if it wasn't for Daniel Day-Lewis, Phoenix hands down would have won the Best Actor award last year for The Master. He's also likely to get a nomination for Her this year.*
If this report hadn't come from "Variety" I'd probably dismiss it as total bullshit, but it's not like it came from Bob'sHouseofHouseMovieRumors.com. Fingers crossed that this becomes a reality.
Batman Vs. Superman opens July 17, 2015.
*This year's Best Actor Oscar nominations are going to be tough. There's about 8 guys that could easily get a nomination and there's only going to be five spots.
