Chew on this--Rupert Wyatt may direct Star Trek 3

Well the Internet is a buzz with the odious news that Jon Chu is at the top of the list to direct the next Star Trek movie.   However, one website, "Cinematallica," says you can take your phasers away from your temples.

While I'm sure many of you were hoping to have the man who directed G.I Joe: Retaliation and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never helm the third film, it is unlikely to happen.  Although sources claim that Chu is on the list, he's definitely not the studio's #1 choice.

Who is the frontrunner to take the crew of the starship Enterprise into deep space for a third go-round?  None other than Rupert Wyatt.  Score!  Wyatt directed the 2011 critically acclaimed and surprise box office hit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  Now granted this is who the studio WANTS but just like anything it doesn't necessarily mean Wyatt is in negotiations or has even been approached.  Furthermore, the tentative plan is to have the third movie release in summer 2016 so we're talking at least early 2015 before this puppy even starts to roll film.

Suffice it to say that Wyatt is leaps and bounds above Chu.  I guess we can be thankful Uwe Bol wasn't on the short list.

Seriously?  Can you imagine Jon Chu taking over for J.J. Abrams?  That'd be like...well...Jon Chu taking over for J.J. Abrams!!!
